About
CALCHEK T 40 contains Telmisartan 40mg, an Angiotensin Receptor Blocker (ARB) widely used for the treatment of essential hypertension and cardiovascular risk reduction. Telmisartan works by selectively blocking the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor in various tissues, including vascular smooth muscle and the adrenal gland. This blockade prevents the vasoconstrictive and aldosterone-secreting effects of angiotensin II, leading to vasodilation, decreased peripheral vascular resistance, and a reduction in blood pressure. Telmisartan has a long duration of action, allowing for once-daily dosing, which contributes to better patient adherence. Beyond its antihypertensive effects, Telmisartan has demonstrated benefits in reducing the risk of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality in high-risk patients, such as those with established cardiovascular disease or type 2 diabetes with end-organ damage. It is a well-tolerated alternative for patients who cannot tolerate ACE inhibitors.
