About

Cytosar 1000mg Injection contains Cytarabine, an antimetabolite antineoplastic agent primarily used in the treatment of various leukemias, particularly acute myeloid leukemia (AML). It works by interfering with DNA synthesis and repair in rapidly dividing cells, including cancer cells. Cytarabine is a pyrimidine analog that, once metabolized intracellularly, inhibits DNA polymerase, thereby preventing DNA replication and ultimately leading to cell death. Its selective toxicity against rapidly proliferating cells makes it effective against hematological malignancies. Due to its potent myelosuppressive effects, Cytosar is administered under strict medical supervision, often as part of intensive induction and consolidation chemotherapy regimens.

Uses

  • Treatment of acute myeloid leukemia (AML).
  • Management of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL).
  • Treatment of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) in blast crisis.
  • Used in non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) as part of combination therapy.

Directions For Use

Administered intravenously or intrathecally by a qualified healthcare professional. Dosage and schedule are highly individualized based on the specific cancer and patient factors.

Safety Measures

  • Alcohol - Avoid alcohol consumption as it may exacerbate liver toxicity and other gastrointestinal side effects associated with chemotherapy.
  • Pregnancy - Highly contraindicated in pregnancy due to severe teratogenic effects and fetal harm. Effective contraception is essential during and after treatment.
  • Breastfeeding - Not recommended during breastfeeding as the drug can pass into breast milk and harm the infant. Discontinue breastfeeding.
  • Liver - Use with extreme caution in patients with pre-existing liver impairment; dosage adjustments may be necessary, and liver function should be closely monitored due to hepatic metabolism.
  • Kidney - Administer cautiously in patients with renal dysfunction; dose modifications may be required based on creatinine clearance, and kidney function should be regularly assessed.
  • Lung - Use with caution in patients with pre-existing lung conditions, as high-dose cytarabine can cause pulmonary toxicity, including non-cardiogenic pulmonary edema.
