About
DPVIL 50mg contains vildagliptin, an oral antidiabetic medication belonging to the class of dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitors. It works by selectively inhibiting the DPP-4 enzyme, which is responsible for the inactivation of incretin hormones, glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP). By preserving the active forms of these incretins, vildagliptin enhances their ability to stimulate insulin release from pancreatic beta cells and suppress glucagon secretion from alpha cells in a glucose-dependent manner.
This mechanism of action leads to improved glycemic control by lowering both fasting and postprandial blood glucose levels without directly causing hypoglycemia when used as monotherapy. Vildagliptin is indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults, often as an adjunct to diet and exercise, or in combination with other antidiabetic agents when monotherapy is insufficient.
