About
VILDAPRIDE DM 500 is a combination medication indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. It comprises Vildagliptin, a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor, and Metformin, a biguanide. Vildagliptin works by inhibiting the breakdown of incretin hormones, leading to increased insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells and decreased glucagon secretion from alpha cells, both in a glucose-dependent manner. Metformin primarily reduces glucose production in the liver, decreases intestinal glucose absorption, and enhances insulin sensitivity in peripheral tissues. This synergistic action addresses multiple pathophysiological defects in type 2 diabetes, resulting in improved glycemic control and a reduction in both fasting and post-prandial blood glucose levels.
Uses
- Treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus.
- As an adjunct to diet and exercise.
- When monotherapy with Metformin or Vildagliptin is insufficient.
- To improve glycemic control in adults.
Directions For Use
Take orally, usually with meals to minimize gastrointestinal upset. Follow your doctor's prescribed dosage and schedule strictly.
Benefits
- Improved HbA1c levels.
- Dual mechanism of action for comprehensive control.
- Reduced fasting and post-prandial glucose.
- Potential for weight neutrality or modest weight loss.
- Lower risk of hypoglycemia compared to sulfonylureas.
- Convenient combination therapy.
Side Effects

- Diarrhea
- Abdominal pain
- Metallic taste
- Headache
- Dizziness
- Nasopharyngitis
- Joint pain

Safety Measures
- Alcohol - Avoid excessive alcohol consumption due to increased risk of lactic acidosis, especially with Metformin.
- Pregnancy - Generally not recommended during pregnancy; consult a doctor. Use only if potential benefits outweigh risks.
- Breastfeeding - Not recommended as components may pass into breast milk. Consult a healthcare professional.
- Liver - Use with caution; Metformin is contraindicated in severe hepatic impairment. Vildagliptin may require dose adjustment.
- Kidney - Metformin is contraindicated in severe renal impairment (eGFR <30 mL/min/1.73m²). Vildagliptin requires dose adjustment based on renal function.
- Lung - Severe respiratory insufficiency can increase the risk of lactic acidosis with Metformin.
