About
LINOPIK-OD contains Linezolid, a synthetic antibiotic belonging to the oxazolidinone class, specifically designed to combat serious Gram-positive bacterial infections. Its unique mechanism of action involves inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis at a very early stage. Linezolid achieves this by binding to the 23S ribosomal RNA of the 50S ribosomal subunit, thereby preventing the formation of the functional 70S initiation complex, which is crucial for the initiation of bacterial protein synthesis. This distinct mode of action minimizes cross-resistance with other antibiotic classes. Linezolid is particularly effective against multi-drug resistant Gram-positive pathogens, including Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and Vancomycin-resistant Enterococci (VRE), and penicillin-resistant Streptococcus pneumoniae. Its efficacy and oral bioavailability make it a critical therapeutic agent for treating severe infections such as nosocomial and community-acquired pneumonia, and complicated skin and soft tissue infections.
