About

METROGYL ER TAB contains metronidazole in an extended-release formulation, designed to provide sustained therapeutic levels of the antibiotic over an extended period. Metronidazole is a potent nitroimidazole antimicrobial agent that is highly effective against anaerobic bacteria and certain protozoa. Its mechanism of action involves the reduction of its nitro group within susceptible organisms, forming reactive cytotoxic compounds that damage DNA and other cellular components, leading to microbial cell death.

The extended-release formulation allows for less frequent dosing, improving patient compliance and maintaining consistent drug concentrations, which is crucial for eradicating deep-seated or persistent infections. It is particularly useful for treating various anaerobic bacterial infections and protozoal infections, offering a convenient and effective treatment option with a prolonged duration of action. This formulation helps to minimize fluctuations in drug levels, potentially reducing the incidence of certain side effects while maximizing efficacy.
