About

Minonil ER 65 Tab contains isosorbide mononitrate, an organic nitrate that acts as a vasodilator. It works by releasing nitric oxide (NO) in vascular smooth muscle, which activates guanylate cyclase, leading to an increase in cyclic GMP (cGMP). This cascade ultimately results in the dephosphorylation of myosin light chains, causing relaxation of smooth muscle cells in both arteries and veins. The primary therapeutic effect is a reduction in myocardial oxygen demand due to decreased preload (venodilation) and, to a lesser extent, afterload (arterial dilation).

This extended-release formulation is specifically designed for the prophylactic treatment of angina pectoris, a condition characterized by chest pain due to insufficient blood flow to the heart muscle. By providing a sustained release of isosorbide mononitrate, it ensures consistent plasma levels, offering prolonged protection against anginal attacks and improving exercise tolerance in patients with chronic stable angina. It is not intended for acute angina relief.
