Isosorbide mononitrate is an organic nitrate vasodilator primarily used for the prevention of angina pectoris. Unlike dinitrate, it is the active 5-mononitrate metabolite of isosorbide dinitrate, meaning it does not undergo significant first-pass metabolism and has high bioavailability.
