About
Isosorbide dinitrate is an organic nitrate vasodilator used for the prevention and treatment of angina pectoris. Similar to other nitrates, it works by being metabolized to nitric oxide, which activates guanylate cyclase and increases cyclic GMP in vascular smooth muscle. This leads to relaxation of both arterial and venous smooth muscle, with a predominant effect on venodilation.
