About
Filgrastim is a recombinant human granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) used to stimulate the production of neutrophils in the bone marrow. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of neutropenia, a condition characterized by abnormally low levels of neutrophils, which are crucial white blood cells for fighting infection. Filgrastim is commonly used in patients undergoing myelosuppressive chemotherapy for nonmyeloid malignancies, to reduce the incidence of febrile neutropenia. It is also used in patients with severe chronic neutropenia, for mobilization of peripheral blood progenitor cells for autologous or allogeneic transplantation, and in patients with acute myeloid leukemia receiving induction or consolidation chemotherapy. By increasing neutrophil counts, Filgrastim helps to reduce the risk and severity of infections, thereby improving patient outcomes and allowing for timely administration of chemotherapy cycles.
