About
Etoricoxib is a highly selective cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitor, belonging to the class of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Its mechanism of action involves selectively blocking the COX-2 enzyme, which is primarily responsible for the synthesis of prostaglandins at sites of inflammation and pain. Unlike non-selective NSAIDs that inhibit both COX-1 and COX-2, etoricoxib's selectivity for COX-2 allows it to reduce pain and inflammation with a potentially lower risk of gastrointestinal side effects, such as ulcers and bleeding, which are often associated with COX-1 inhibition.
The 90mg strength is commonly used for the symptomatic treatment of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and chronic musculoskeletal pain, providing effective and sustained relief from inflammatory pain.
