About

Rituximab is a chimeric monoclonal antibody that targets the CD20 antigen found on the surface of pre-B and mature B-lymphocytes. By binding to CD20, rituximab initiates a cascade of immune responses, including antibody-dependent cell-mediated cytotoxicity (ADCC), complement-dependent cytotoxicity (CDC), and direct induction of apoptosis, leading to the depletion of CD20-positive B cells. This mechanism is crucial in treating various B-cell mediated conditions.

It is administered intravenously and is widely used in oncology and rheumatology. Its targeted action helps to reduce the number of abnormal B cells in certain cancers and to modulate the immune system in autoimmune diseases, thereby alleviating symptoms and slowing disease progression.

Uses

  • Treatment of Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma (NHL)
  • Management of Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL)
  • Treatment of moderate to severe Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA)
  • Management of Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis (GPA) and Microscopic Polyangiitis (MPA)
