About
ONDERO TAB contains Linagliptin, a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor, indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Linagliptin works by selectively inhibiting the enzyme DPP-4, which is responsible for the degradation of incretin hormones, glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP). By preserving these incretin hormones, Linagliptin enhances glucose-dependent insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells and reduces glucagon secretion from pancreatic alpha cells. This mechanism helps to lower elevated blood glucose levels both post-meal and fasting, leading to improved glycemic control. Linagliptin is unique among DPP-4 inhibitors as it is primarily excreted unchanged via the enterohepatic system, requiring no dose adjustment for renal impairment, making it a suitable option for a broad range of patients.
