About

Palmitoylethanolamide (PEA, as in PALMIHER) is an endogenous fatty acid amide that belongs to the class of N-acylethanolamines. It is naturally produced in the body and acts as a lipid mediator, playing a crucial role in various physiological processes, including pain and inflammation modulation. PEA exerts its effects primarily through interaction with peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPAR-α) and indirectly by enhancing the activity of the endocannabinoid system, without directly binding to cannabinoid receptors.

Its mechanism involves downregulating mast cell activation and glial cell overactivity, which are key contributors to chronic pain and neuroinflammation. PEA is recognized for its anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and neuroprotective properties, making it a promising compound for managing neuropathic pain, chronic inflammatory conditions, and other pain syndromes with a favorable safety profile.
