About

Paclitaxel is a powerful antineoplastic agent belonging to the taxane class of chemotherapy drugs, widely utilized in the treatment of various solid tumors. Its unique mechanism of action centers on its ability to bind to microtubules, promoting their assembly from tubulin dimers and subsequently stabilizing them by preventing their depolymerization. This stabilization profoundly disrupts the dynamic equilibrium of the microtubule network, which is absolutely essential for critical cellular functions such as mitosis (cell division) and interphase processes. The resulting inhibition of cell division leads to cell cycle arrest, primarily in the G2/M phase, and ultimately triggers apoptosis (programmed cell death) in rapidly dividing cancer cells. This disruption of the cellular cytoskeleton makes paclitaxel a highly effective agent against a broad spectrum of malignancies, including ovarian, breast, and non-small cell lung cancers.
