PEG Religrast 6mg Injection contains Pegfilgrastim as its active ingredient. It is a granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) approved by the FDA to reduce the risk and duration of febrile neutropenia—a condition involving fever or infection caused by low white blood cell (WBC) counts—during treatment with bone marrow-suppressing chemotherapy. It is also used to improve survival in individuals exposed to radiation therapy, which can severely damage bone marrow. Pegfilgrastim works by stimulating blood-forming cells in the bone marrow, promoting cell multiplication and activation.

Pegfilgrastim is a biotechnologically engineered protein, produced using E. coli bacteria, and is classified under the cytokine family. It closely resembles the body’s natural granulocyte-colony stimulating factor (G-CSF). WBCs are vital for fighting infections, but chemotherapy can significantly lower their count, increasing the risk of infections.
