About

Renocrit, containing an erythropoiesis-stimulating agent (ESA), is a recombinant human erythropoietin that functions by stimulating the bone marrow to produce red blood cells. This hormone is naturally produced by the kidneys and is essential for regulating erythropoiesis. By mimicking natural erythropoietin, Renocrit effectively increases hemoglobin levels and red blood cell mass, thereby treating anemia. It is primarily indicated for patients suffering from anemia due to chronic kidney disease, as well as certain cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, to reduce the need for blood transfusions and improve overall patient well-being. Its mechanism helps to restore the body's oxygen-carrying capacity, alleviating fatigue and other debilitating symptoms associated with anemia.

Uses

  • Treatment of anemia associated with chronic renal failure.
  • Anemia in cancer patients receiving myelosuppressive chemotherapy.
  • Anemia in HIV-infected patients on zidovudine.
  • To reduce the need for allogeneic blood transfusions in surgery.
