About
STATPURE 20 TAB contains Atorvastatin 20mg, an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor, commonly known as a statin. Atorvastatin works by inhibiting the enzyme HMG-CoA reductase, which is crucial for cholesterol synthesis in the liver. This inhibition leads to a reduction in the production of mevalonate, a precursor to cholesterol. Consequently, the liver increases the uptake of LDL-C (low-density lipoprotein cholesterol) from the bloodstream to compensate, thereby lowering circulating levels of LDL-C, total cholesterol, and triglycerides. It also has a modest effect on increasing HDL-C (high-density lipoprotein cholesterol).
Atorvastatin 20mg is indicated for the treatment of primary hypercholesterolemia, mixed dyslipidemia, and homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia. It is also used for the primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular events, including myocardial infarction, stroke, and revascularization procedures, in patients with or without established coronary heart disease but with multiple risk factors. The 20mg dose provides significant lipid-lowering efficacy, making it a cornerstone in the management of dyslipidemia and cardiovascular risk reduction.
