About

Terbinafine 500mg is an antifungal medication belonging to the allylamine class, primarily used to treat fungal infections of the skin, hair, and nails. It works by inhibiting squalene epoxidase, a key enzyme in the fungal ergosterol biosynthesis pathway. This inhibition leads to an accumulation of squalene within the fungal cell and a deficiency of ergosterol, both of which are toxic to the fungal cell membrane, ultimately causing fungal cell death. Terbinafine is highly lipophilic and keratophilic, allowing it to concentrate in the skin, nails, and fatty tissues, providing sustained antifungal activity.

Uses

  • Treatment of onychomycosis (fungal nail infections).
  • Management of tinea capitis (ringworm of the scalp).
  • Severe tinea corporis (ringworm of the body).
  • Extensive tinea cruris (jock itch) unresponsive to topical therapy.

Take one tablet orally once daily, with or without food, as directed by your physician. Complete the full course of treatment.
