About

Telmed AM Tab is a combination medication containing Telmisartan, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB), and Amlodipine, a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker (CCB). This synergistic combination is prescribed primarily for the management of essential hypertension. Telmisartan works by blocking the action of angiotensin II, a potent vasoconstrictor, leading to relaxation of blood vessels and a reduction in blood pressure. Amlodipine complements this action by inhibiting the influx of calcium ions into vascular smooth muscle and myocardial cells, causing peripheral arterial vasodilation and further lowering blood pressure.

This dual mechanism of action provides comprehensive blood pressure control, often more effectively than either agent alone, especially in patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled by monotherapy. It helps to reduce the risk of cardiovascular events such as stroke and myocardial infarction by maintaining stable blood pressure levels. The combination is generally well-tolerated, offering a convenient once-daily dosing regimen.

Uses

  • Treatment of essential hypertension.
  • Management of high blood pressure in adults.
  • Reduction of cardiovascular risk in hypertensive patients.
  • When monotherapy with either telmisartan or amlodipine is insufficient.
