About

Telmikind Beta 25 Tab is a combination medication formulated for the effective management of essential hypertension, combining Telmisartan, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB), and Metoprolol, a beta-1 selective adrenergic blocker. Telmisartan exerts its antihypertensive effect by selectively blocking the AT1 receptor, preventing angiotensin II from causing vasoconstriction and aldosterone release, which results in systemic vasodilation and reduced blood pressure. Metoprolol, a cardioselective beta-blocker, works by reducing heart rate and myocardial contractility, thereby decreasing cardiac output and lowering blood pressure. This dual therapy provides comprehensive blood pressure control by targeting both the renin-angiotensin system and the sympathetic nervous system. It is particularly beneficial for patients who may also have conditions like angina or post-myocardial infarction, where beta-blockers are indicated, offering a lower dose of the beta-blocker component for initial therapy or for patients sensitive to higher doses.

Uses

  • Treatment of essential hypertension.
  • Management of hypertension with co-existing angina pectoris.
  • Reduction of cardiovascular risk in hypertensive patients.
  • Post-myocardial infarction management in hypertensive patients.

Safety Measures

  • Alcohol - Avoid or limit alcohol consumption as it can enhance the blood pressure-lowering effect and increase the risk of dizziness or fainting.
  • Pregnancy - Not recommended during pregnancy unless clearly necessary, as beta-blockers can cause fetal bradycardia and growth restriction. ARBs are contraindicated.
  • Breastfeeding - Not recommended during breastfeeding as both components can pass into breast milk and may harm the infant.
  • Liver - Use with caution in patients with hepatic impairment; dose adjustments may be necessary, and liver function should be monitored.
  • Kidney - Use with caution in patients with severe renal impairment; regular monitoring of kidney function is essential.
  • Lung - Contraindicated in patients with bronchial asthma or severe COPD due to the risk of bronchospasm, even with selective beta-blockers.
