About
Telmisartan/Amlodipine, known as Telvas AM, is a fixed-dose combination medication used for the treatment of essential hypertension. Telmisartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that works by blocking the effects of angiotensin II, a potent vasoconstrictor, leading to vasodilation and reduced blood pressure. Amlodipine is a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker (CCB) that inhibits the influx of calcium ions into vascular smooth muscle cells, causing peripheral vasodilation and reducing systemic vascular resistance. This combination provides a powerful synergistic effect, offering comprehensive and sustained blood pressure control by addressing both the renin-angiotensin system and calcium channels. This often leads to more effective blood pressure reduction than either agent alone, making it a valuable option for patients who require more aggressive blood pressure management or who have not achieved target blood pressure with monotherapy.
