About

TERGOSIL TAB contains Terbinafine, an antifungal agent belonging to the allylamine class. It is primarily used to treat fungal infections of the skin, hair, and nails, particularly onychomycosis (fungal nail infection) and severe tinea infections (ringworm, athlete's foot, jock itch) that are extensive or unresponsive to topical treatments. Terbinafine works by selectively inhibiting squalene epoxidase, a key enzyme in the fungal ergosterol biosynthesis pathway.

This inhibition leads to an accumulation of squalene within the fungal cell and a deficiency of ergosterol, both of which are toxic to the fungal cell, causing its death. Terbinafine is fungicidal against dermatophytes, the most common cause of skin and nail fungal infections. Its oral formulation allows for systemic distribution, reaching the site of infection in nails and hair follicles, making it highly effective for difficult-to-treat infections.
