About

Telmisartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that selectively blocks the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor in various tissues, including vascular smooth muscle and the adrenal gland. Angiotensin II is a potent vasoconstrictor and a primary hormone of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS), which plays a crucial role in the pathophysiology of hypertension and heart failure. By blocking its effects, telmisartan causes vasodilation, reduces aldosterone secretion, and lowers blood pressure.
