About

VORIFAST 200 MG TAB contains Voriconazole, a broad-spectrum triazole antifungal agent. It is primarily used for the treatment of serious, life-threatening fungal infections in immunocompromised patients. Voriconazole works by inhibiting fungal cytochrome P450-dependent 14-alpha-demethylation of lanosterol, an essential step in fungal ergosterol biosynthesis. This disruption leads to the accumulation of 14-alpha-methyl sterols and a depletion of ergosterol within the fungal cell membrane, impairing its structure and function, ultimately leading to fungal cell death.

This medication is effective against a wide range of fungi, including Candida species (including fluconazole-resistant strains), Aspergillus species, and certain other rare but serious fungal pathogens. Due to its potent activity and potential for drug interactions and side effects, Voriconazole is typically reserved for severe infections and requires careful monitoring of patients, including liver function tests and drug levels.
