About
YESPOD 200 DT TAB contains Cefpodoxime Proxetil, a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. It is a prodrug that is hydrolyzed in the gastrointestinal tract to its active form, cefpodoxime. This antibiotic exerts its bactericidal action by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, specifically by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) located inside the bacterial cell wall. This binding prevents the cross-linking of peptidoglycan chains, which are crucial for maintaining the structural integrity of the bacterial cell wall, leading to cell lysis and death. Cefpodoxime Proxetil is effective against a broad spectrum of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including many strains that produce beta-lactamase enzymes, which would otherwise inactivate other penicillin-based antibiotics. Its broad-spectrum activity makes it a valuable option for treating various bacterial infections, offering good oral bioavailability and tissue penetration.
