About

ARBITEL H 80 TAB combines Telmisartan, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB), with Hydrochlorothiazide, a thiazide diuretic. Telmisartan works by selectively blocking the AT1 receptor, preventing angiotensin II from constricting blood vessels and stimulating aldosterone release, leading to vasodilation and reduced blood pressure. Hydrochlorothiazide enhances the excretion of sodium and water by inhibiting sodium reabsorption in the distal convoluted tubule, thereby reducing plasma volume. This synergistic action provides a potent antihypertensive effect, making it highly effective for managing essential hypertension, especially in patients who require more robust blood pressure control or have not achieved target blood pressure with monotherapy. The combination helps to reduce the overall risk of cardiovascular events.

Uses

  • Treatment of essential hypertension.
  • Reduction of cardiovascular risk in high-risk patients.
  • Management of hypertension in patients requiring combination therapy.
  • Prevention of stroke and myocardial infarction in hypertensive individuals.

Directions For Use

Take orally once daily, with or without food, as directed by your physician.

Benefits

  • Effective and sustained blood pressure reduction.
  • Reduces the risk of cardiovascular events like stroke and heart attack.
  • Improved blood pressure control compared to monotherapy.
  • Generally well-tolerated with a convenient once-daily dosing.
  • Provides synergistic antihypertensive effects.
  • May offer renal protection in certain patient populations.

Side Effects

  • Dizziness or lightheadedness
  • Fatigue
  • Headache
  • Nausea
  • Diarrhea
  • Muscle cramps
  • Hypotension
  • Hyperkalemia (less common with HCTZ)
  • Hypokalemia (due to HCTZ)
  • Increased uric acid levels
  • Elevated blood glucose
  • Rash or itching

Safety Measures

  • Alcohol - Avoid or limit alcohol consumption as it may enhance the blood pressure-lowering effect, leading to increased dizziness or lightheadedness.
  • Pregnancy - Contraindicated during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, due to potential fetal harm including renal dysfunction and death.
  • Breastfeeding - Not recommended during breastfeeding as both components may pass into breast milk and could cause adverse effects in the infant.
  • Liver - Use with caution in patients with severe hepatic impairment; dose adjustment may be necessary as telmisartan is primarily eliminated via bile.
  • Kidney - Use with caution in patients with severe renal impairment; monitor kidney function closely as both components can affect renal hemodynamics and electrolyte balance.
  • Lung - Generally safe for use in patients with lung conditions; however, monitor for any unusual respiratory symptoms, though not typically associated with these medications.
