About

Telsartan 40mg contains Telmisartan, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) primarily used for the management of essential hypertension. It exerts its antihypertensive effect by selectively blocking the AT1 receptor, thereby preventing the vasoconstrictive and aldosterone-secreting actions of angiotensin II. This leads to relaxation of blood vessels, a decrease in peripheral vascular resistance, and a subsequent reduction in blood pressure. Its long half-life supports once-daily administration, contributing to patient adherence.

In addition to its role in blood pressure control, Telmisartan has been shown to reduce the risk of cardiovascular events in high-risk adult patients, including those with established atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease or type 2 diabetes with target organ damage. It is a valuable therapeutic option for patients who require effective blood pressure management and cardiovascular protection, particularly those who cannot tolerate ACE inhibitors due to side effects like persistent cough.

  • Treatment of essential hypertension.
  • Reduction of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality.
  • Prevention of stroke and myocardial infarction in high-risk patients.
  • Management of diabetic nephropathy (off-label, but common for ARBs).
