About
Dapahenz S 5/100 is a combination medication containing Dapagliflozin and Sitagliptin. Dapagliflozin is a sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor that reduces blood glucose by promoting glucose excretion in the urine. Sitagliptin is a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor that enhances the body's natural ability to lower high blood glucose levels by increasing the levels of incretin hormones (GLP-1 and GIP). These hormones increase insulin synthesis and release from pancreatic beta cells and decrease glucagon secretion from pancreatic alpha cells, particularly in a glucose-dependent manner.
This combination therapy offers a complementary approach to managing type 2 diabetes. Dapagliflozin acts independently of insulin, while Sitagliptin improves pancreatic islet function. Together, they provide robust glycemic control, addressing multiple pathophysiological defects of type 2 diabetes. The combination can lead to significant reductions in HbA1c, with the added benefits of Dapagliflozin's cardiovascular and renal protection, and Sitagliptin's generally favorable tolerability profile.
