About
Dasania 50mg Tablet belongs to a class of medications known as tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs). It functions by selectively inhibiting the activity of specific enzymes, particularly BCR-ABL tyrosine kinase, which are crucial for the proliferation and survival of cancer cells in certain types of leukemia. By blocking these abnormal proteins, the medication helps to control the growth of cancerous cells and reduce their numbers in the body. This targeted action minimizes damage to healthy cells compared to traditional chemotherapy, leading to a more specific therapeutic effect.
This medication is primarily used in the treatment of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) and acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) that are Philadelphia chromosome-positive (Ph+). Its mechanism of action involves binding to and inhibiting the ATP-binding site of the BCR-ABL kinase, thereby preventing the phosphorylation of downstream signaling proteins essential for cell growth and division. This leads to apoptosis (programmed cell death) in leukemia cells, effectively managing the disease progression and improving patient outcomes.
Uses
- Treatment of newly diagnosed Philadelphia chromosome-positive (Ph+) chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) in chronic phase.
- Treatment of Ph+ CML in chronic, accelerated, or myeloid/lymphoid blast phase with resistance or intolerance to prior therapy.
- Treatment of Philadelphia chromosome-positive acute lymphoblastic leukemia (Ph+ ALL) with resistance or intolerance to prior therapy.
- Treatment of Ph+ ALL in adult patients who are newly diagnosed and cannot tolerate other TKI therapies.
