About

This medication combines Empagliflozin, a sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor, and Linagliptin, a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor. Empagliflozin works by inhibiting SGLT2 in the kidneys, leading to increased glucose excretion in the urine, thereby lowering blood glucose levels and providing significant cardiovascular and renal protective effects. Linagliptin enhances the body's natural ability to lower high blood sugar by increasing the levels of active incretin hormones, which stimulate insulin release and decrease glucagon secretion in a glucose-dependent manner. This combination offers a complementary mechanism of action to achieve comprehensive glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes. It is particularly useful for patients who need improved blood sugar management and may benefit from the additional cardiovascular and renal advantages of Empagliflozin.

Uses

  • Management of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults.
  • To improve glycemic control when diet and exercise are insufficient.
  • As an add-on therapy to other antidiabetic medications.
  • To reduce the risk of cardiovascular death in patients with type 2 diabetes and established cardiovascular disease.
