About

Febutaz 40 mg tablet belongs to the class of xanthine oxidase inhibitors and contains the active ingredient febuxostat. It is primarily used to treat gout, a form of arthritis caused by excess uric acid buildup in the body. This leads to pain, tenderness, swelling, and difficulty moving the affected joints. Gout commonly affects the toe joint, but it may also occur in the ears, heels, knees, wrists, and fingers. Febutaz is also used to prevent and manage high uric acid levels that can develop when starting chemotherapy for blood cancers.

This medicine works by lowering uric acid levels in the body and can help prevent tumour lysis syndrome (TLS) — a potentially life‑threatening condition that occurs when cancer cells break down rapidly during chemotherapy. TLS is most common in blood cancers such as leukaemia and lymphoma and causes a sudden release of uric acid, potassium, and phosphate into the bloodstream. During treatment, your doctor may regularly monitor your blood counts, blood sugar, electrolytes, and kidney function to avoid serious complications. Febutaz may also increase the risk of heart problems.

Before starting this medicine, inform your doctor if you have liver disease, heart failure, high cholesterol, or high blood pressure. Seek medical attention if you develop allergic reactions such as skin rash or itching. Febutaz contains lactose as an inactive ingredient, which may cause bloating and abdominal pain in people with lactose intolerance. If you are lactose intolerant, inform your doctor before starting therapy.
