About

Femara 2.5mg Tablet contains Letrozole, a potent and highly selective non-steroidal aromatase inhibitor. It is indicated for the adjuvant treatment of postmenopausal women with hormone receptor-positive early breast cancer, extended adjuvant treatment of hormone receptor-positive early breast cancer in postmenopausal women who have received prior standard adjuvant tamoxifen therapy, and first-line treatment of postmenopausal women with hormone receptor-positive or unknown advanced breast cancer. Letrozole works by inhibiting the aromatase enzyme, which is responsible for converting androgens into estrogens in peripheral tissues.

By significantly reducing estrogen levels, Letrozole deprives estrogen-dependent breast cancer cells of growth stimulation, thereby inhibiting tumor growth. This mechanism is particularly effective in postmenopausal women where estrogen production primarily occurs in peripheral tissues rather than the ovaries. It is a crucial component of endocrine therapy for breast cancer, offering a well-tolerated oral treatment option.

Uses

  • Adjuvant treatment of early breast cancer in postmenopausal women.
  • Extended adjuvant treatment after tamoxifen therapy.
