About

GALVUS 50 contains vildagliptin, a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor, used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Vildagliptin works by enhancing the body's natural ability to control blood glucose levels. It achieves this by inhibiting the enzyme DPP-4, which is responsible for the rapid degradation of incretin hormones, glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP). By preserving these incretins, vildagliptin leads to glucose-dependent increases in insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells and decreases in glucagon secretion from pancreatic alpha cells. This dual action helps to lower both fasting and postprandial blood glucose concentrations, improving overall glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes. It is typically used as an adjunct to diet and exercise, either as monotherapy or in combination with other antidiabetic agents.
