About

Zomelis 50 mg contains Vildagliptin, a potent and selective dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor, used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Vildagliptin works by preventing the breakdown of incretin hormones, glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP). By increasing the circulating levels of these active incretins, Vildagliptin enhances the sensitivity of pancreatic beta cells to glucose, leading to increased insulin secretion, and reduces glucagon secretion from pancreatic alpha cells. This glucose-dependent mechanism helps to lower both fasting and post-meal blood glucose concentrations without a high risk of hypoglycemia when used as monotherapy. It is effective as a standalone treatment or in combination with other antidiabetic agents.
