About

Vysov M 50/500mg is a combination medication containing Vildagliptin, a DPP-4 inhibitor, and Metformin, a biguanide, specifically indicated for the comprehensive management of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. Vildagliptin exerts its therapeutic effect by selectively inhibiting the enzyme dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4), which prevents the rapid degradation of incretin hormones, such as glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP). This preservation leads to enhanced glucose-dependent insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells and suppressed glucagon secretion from alpha cells. Metformin, on the other hand, primarily reduces hepatic glucose production, decreases intestinal glucose absorption, and significantly improves insulin sensitivity in peripheral tissues. The synergistic action of these two agents, targeting distinct pathophysiological defects of Type 2 diabetes, results in a powerful reduction of both fasting and post-meal blood glucose levels, thereby providing robust and comprehensive glycemic control for patients.

Uses

  • Management of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus.
  • To improve glycemic control.
  • Used when diet, exercise, and monotherapy are insufficient.
  • To reduce fasting and post-meal blood sugar levels.

Directions For Use

Take this medication orally, usually twice daily with meals to minimize gastrointestinal side effects. Follow your doctor's dosage instructions carefully.

Benefits

  • Provides effective blood sugar control through two complementary mechanisms.
  • Reduces HbA1c levels significantly.
  • Low risk of hypoglycemia when used alone.
  • May lead to modest weight loss (Metformin component).
  • Improves both insulin secretion and sensitivity.
  • Helps prevent long-term diabetes complications.

Side Effects

  • Nausea, vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Abdominal pain
  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Nasopharyngitis
  • Tremor
  • Fatigue
  • Lactic acidosis (rare, serious with Metformin)
  • Vitamin B12 deficiency (with Metformin)
  • Pancreatitis (rare, serious with Vildagliptin)
  • Arthralgia

Safety Measures

  • Alcohol - Alcohol can increase the risk of hypoglycemia and lactic acidosis (with Metformin). Avoid excessive alcohol consumption.
  • Pregnancy - Generally not recommended during pregnancy. Insulin is usually the preferred treatment for diabetes in pregnant women.
  • Breastfeeding - Not recommended during breastfeeding as both components may pass into breast milk and potentially affect the infant.
  • Liver - Vildagliptin is contraindicated in patients with liver impairment. Metformin is contraindicated in severe liver disease due to increased risk of lactic acidosis.
  • Kidney - Metformin is contraindicated in severe kidney impairment. Vildagliptin requires dose adjustment based on kidney function.
  • Lung - No specific contraindications or precautions related to lung conditions are typically noted, but severe respiratory failure can increase lactic acidosis risk.
