About

GEMBIN is an antimetabolite chemotherapy agent belonging to the class of nucleoside analogs. It works by interfering with DNA synthesis and repair, leading to cell death. Once inside the cell, gemcitabine is phosphorylated to its active diphosphate and triphosphate forms. Gemcitabine diphosphate inhibits ribonucleotide reductase, an enzyme essential for the synthesis of deoxyribonucleotides required for DNA replication. Gemcitabine triphosphate is incorporated into DNA strands, causing chain termination and inhibiting further DNA synthesis. This dual mechanism of action effectively disrupts the proliferation of rapidly dividing cancer cells, making it a broad-spectrum agent against various solid tumors.

Its cytotoxic effects are cell cycle-specific, primarily affecting cells in the S-phase and blocking the progression of cells through the G1/S boundary. GEMBIN is widely used in the treatment of several advanced cancers, either as a single agent or in combination with other chemotherapeutic drugs. Its ability to induce apoptosis and inhibit tumor growth has made it a cornerstone in the management of pancreatic, lung, breast, and ovarian cancers, offering significant therapeutic benefits to patients with these challenging malignancies.
