About

GLZ XR TAB contains Gliclazide, an oral hypoglycemic agent classified as a second-generation sulfonylurea. This extended-release formulation is specifically designed for the sustained management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Gliclazide primarily works by stimulating the release of insulin from the pancreatic beta cells. It achieves this by binding to specific sulfonylurea receptors on the beta-cell membrane, which leads to the closure of ATP-sensitive potassium channels. This closure causes depolarization of the beta-cell membrane, triggering an influx of calcium ions, which in turn stimulates the exocytosis of insulin granules.

The extended-release nature of GLZ XR ensures a gradual and prolonged release of the active ingredient, providing consistent blood glucose control throughout the day and minimizing fluctuations. It is used as an adjunct to diet and exercise when these lifestyle interventions alone are insufficient to achieve adequate glycemic control.
