About

Famotidine is a potent histamine H2-receptor antagonist that works by blocking the action of histamine on the H2 receptors located on the parietal cells of the stomach lining. This blockade leads to a significant reduction in the secretion of gastric acid, both basal acid secretion and acid stimulated by food, histamine, or gastrin. By decreasing the acidity of stomach contents, famotidine effectively alleviates symptoms and promotes the healing of various acid-related gastrointestinal conditions.

It is widely utilized in the treatment and prevention of duodenal and gastric ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), erosive esophagitis, and pathological hypersecretory conditions such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Famotidine provides effective and sustained relief from heartburn, indigestion, and other symptoms associated with excessive stomach acid, contributing to improved patient comfort and mucosal healing. Its well-established efficacy and safety profile make it a common choice in gastroenterological therapy.
