About

K 2 Solution is an oral medication primarily containing potassium citrate, specifically designed for the prevention and management of kidney stones, especially those related to hypocitraturia and uric acid nephrolithiasis. Potassium citrate works by increasing the pH of urine, making it less acidic, and by significantly elevating urinary citrate levels. Citrate is a powerful natural inhibitor of stone formation; it binds with calcium in the urine, preventing the formation of calcium oxalate and calcium phosphate crystals. Additionally, by alkalizing the urine, it helps to prevent the crystallization of uric acid, thereby reducing the risk of uric acid stone formation and aiding in the dissolution of existing stones. This action helps to create an environment less conducive to stone development, supporting long-term kidney health and reducing the recurrence of painful kidney stone episodes.

  • Treatment of hypocitraturia
  • Prevention of calcium oxalate kidney stones
  • Management of uric acid kidney stones
  • Adjunctive therapy for renal tubular acidosis
