About

Nab-paclitaxel is an albumin-bound form of paclitaxel, a potent microtubule inhibitor that disrupts cell division and induces apoptosis in rapidly dividing cancer cells. Its unique albumin-bound formulation allows for higher intratumoral concentrations and significantly reduced incidence of hypersensitivity reactions compared to conventional paclitaxel, thereby eliminating the need for premedication with corticosteroids and antihistamines. The drug works by stabilizing microtubules, essential components of the cell's cytoskeleton, preventing their depolymerization. This action leads to the arrest of cells in the G2/M phase of the cell cycle, ultimately triggering programmed cell death. This mechanism makes it a highly effective antineoplastic agent against various solid tumors, offering a valuable treatment option for patients with advanced malignancies.

Uses

  • Treatment of metastatic breast cancer.
  • Management of advanced non-small cell lung cancer.
  • Therapy for metastatic adenocarcinoma of the pancreas.
  • Used in combination regimens for certain solid tumors.
