About

Olanzapine is a widely utilized atypical antipsychotic medication effective in the treatment of schizophrenia and the acute manic or mixed episodes associated with bipolar I disorder, as well as for maintenance therapy in bipolar disorder. Its therapeutic action stems from its ability to block a broad spectrum of receptors in the central nervous system, including dopamine D2, serotonin 5-HT2A, muscarinic M1, histamine H1, and alpha-1 adrenergic receptors. This comprehensive receptor blockade contributes to its efficacy in reducing psychotic symptoms, stabilizing mood fluctuations, and alleviating agitation. The 'MELT' formulation, an orally disintegrating tablet, provides a significant advantage by dissolving rapidly on the tongue without the need for water, making it particularly suitable for patients with dysphagia, those who may resist taking medication, or when a quicker onset of action is clinically beneficial. This ensures reliable and convenient administration for diverse patient needs.
