About

Oncothal 100mg Capsule, containing thalidomide, is an immunomodulatory drug with a complex mechanism of action, including anti-inflammatory, anti-angiogenic, and immunomodulatory properties. Initially infamous for its teratogenic effects, it has been repurposed and is now a crucial medication in specific clinical settings, primarily for the treatment of multiple myeloma. Its therapeutic effects in multiple myeloma are thought to involve inhibition of angiogenesis, modulation of cytokine production (e.g., TNF-alpha), and direct anti-tumor activity by inducing apoptosis in myeloma cells.

Beyond oncology, thalidomide is also approved for the treatment of moderate to severe erythema nodosum leprosum (ENL), a painful inflammatory complication of leprosy. Due to its severe teratogenicity, Oncothal is subject to strict risk management programs to prevent exposure during pregnancy. Patients must adhere to stringent prescribing and dispensing protocols, including mandatory contraception.
