About

PEMCURE (Pemetrexed) is an antineoplastic agent belonging to the class of antifolates. It works by inhibiting several folate-dependent enzymes involved in purine and pyrimidine synthesis, which are essential for cell replication. This disruption leads to DNA synthesis inhibition and ultimately cell death, particularly in rapidly dividing cancer cells. It is administered intravenously and is primarily used in the treatment of certain types of cancer, either alone or in combination with other chemotherapeutic agents.

Pemetrexed's mechanism of action targets multiple pathways, making it effective against various solid tumors. Its clinical efficacy has been demonstrated in improving progression-free survival and overall survival in specific patient populations. Patients typically receive premedication with corticosteroids, folic acid, and vitamin B12 to mitigate certain side effects and enhance tolerability.
