About

ROMISET 500 MG INJ contains Romiplostim, a thrombopoietin (TPO) receptor agonist. It is a peptibody, a fusion protein that specifically binds to and activates the human TPO receptor, mimicking the action of endogenous thrombopoietin. This activation stimulates megakaryopoiesis, the process of platelet production, within the bone marrow. By increasing the number of megakaryocytes and their subsequent maturation, Romiplostim leads to a dose-dependent increase in platelet counts, which are crucial for normal blood clotting and preventing bleeding.

This medication is primarily used to treat chronic immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) in adult patients who have had an insufficient response to other treatments, such as corticosteroids, immunoglobulins, or splenectomy. Its targeted mechanism helps to restore and maintain adequate platelet levels, thereby significantly reducing the risk of bleeding events and improving the quality of life for individuals living with chronic ITP.

Uses

  • Treatment of chronic immune thrombocytopenia (ITP).
  • Increases platelet counts in ITP patients.
  • Reduces the risk of bleeding in ITP.
  • Used in adults refractory to other ITP treatments.

Administer as a subcutaneous injection once weekly, as directed by a healthcare professional. Dose is adjusted based on platelet count.

Benefits

  • Reduces the incidence of bleeding events in ITP.
  • Offers a non-immunosuppressive treatment option.

  • Breastfeeding - Not recommended during breastfeeding as it is unknown if it is excreted in human milk and potential for adverse effects on infant.
  • Liver - Use with caution in patients with liver impairment; monitor liver function tests periodically.
  • Kidney - No specific dose adjustment required in patients with renal impairment.
  • Lung - No direct lung effects, but monitor for any new or worsening respiratory symptoms, especially if thrombosis is a concern.
