About

SULTASIL 375 TAB contains Sultamicillin, which is a prodrug of ampicillin and sulbactam. Ampicillin is a broad-spectrum penicillin antibiotic that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by interfering with the transpeptidation step of peptidoglycan synthesis. Sulbactam is a beta-lactamase inhibitor that irreversibly binds to and inactivates a wide range of bacterial beta-lactamase enzymes, which are responsible for breaking down penicillin-class antibiotics. By combining ampicillin with sulbactam, Sultamicillin extends the antibacterial spectrum of ampicillin to include many beta-lactamase producing strains that would otherwise be resistant. This combination makes it effective against a variety of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, as well as some anaerobes, making it a valuable treatment for mixed bacterial infections and those caused by resistant organisms. It offers good oral bioavailability.
