About

Tamflo 10, containing tamsulosin, is an alpha-1 adrenergic receptor antagonist primarily used to treat the signs and symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). BPH is a common condition in older men where the prostate gland enlarges, leading to urinary symptoms such as hesitancy, weak stream, nocturia, and incomplete bladder emptying. Tamsulosin works by selectively blocking alpha-1A adrenergic receptors located in the smooth muscle of the prostate and bladder neck. This blockade causes relaxation of these muscles, reducing the obstruction of urine flow and improving urinary symptoms.

Unlike some other BPH medications, tamsulosin primarily affects the dynamic component of prostatic obstruction without significantly reducing prostate size. Its selective action minimizes effects on blood pressure compared to non-selective alpha-blockers, though orthostatic hypotension can still occur. It provides symptomatic relief, improving quality of life for men with BPH.
