About
Telpres 40mg contains Telmisartan, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) used for the treatment of essential hypertension and for cardiovascular risk reduction. Telmisartan works by selectively blocking the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor, which is responsible for the vasoconstrictor and aldosterone-secreting effects of angiotensin II. This action leads to vasodilation, reduced peripheral vascular resistance, and a decrease in blood pressure. It is particularly beneficial for patients who cannot tolerate ACE inhibitors due to cough. Beyond blood pressure control, Telmisartan has demonstrated efficacy in reducing the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, and cardiovascular death in high-risk patients aged 55 years or older with a history of coronary artery disease, peripheral artery disease, stroke, transient ischemic attack, or diabetes with end-organ damage. Its long duration of action ensures 24-hour blood pressure control, contributing to consistent therapeutic effects.
