About
TELMEKIND contains Telmisartan, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) used primarily for the treatment of essential hypertension. Telmisartan works by selectively blocking the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptors found in various tissues, including vascular smooth muscle and the adrenal glands. Angiotensin II is a potent vasoconstrictor and a key component of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS), which plays a crucial role in blood pressure regulation. By blocking its effects, Telmisartan causes vasodilation, reduces aldosterone secretion, and lowers blood pressure.
Beyond its antihypertensive effects, Telmisartan has also demonstrated benefits in reducing cardiovascular morbidity and mortality in patients at high risk, such as those with a history of cardiovascular disease or type 2 diabetes with end-organ damage. Its long duration of action allows for convenient once-daily dosing, providing sustained blood pressure control throughout the 24-hour period. It is generally well-tolerated and offers an alternative for patients who cannot tolerate ACE inhibitors due to cough.
