About

CTD T 6.25/40 is a fixed-dose combination medication containing Chlorthalidone, a thiazide-like diuretic, and Telmisartan, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB). This synergistic formulation is primarily indicated for the management of essential hypertension, particularly in patients who require more aggressive blood pressure control or who have not responded adequately to monotherapy. Telmisartan works by selectively blocking the AT1 receptor, preventing the vasoconstrictive and aldosterone-secreting effects of angiotensin II, leading to vasodilation and reduced blood pressure. Chlorthalidone complements this action by increasing the excretion of sodium and water, thereby reducing blood volume and peripheral vascular resistance. The combination provides a potent antihypertensive effect, often achieving target blood pressure levels more effectively than either drug alone. This dual mechanism helps to reduce the risk of cardiovascular events such as stroke and myocardial infarction, offering comprehensive cardiovascular protection. It is particularly beneficial for patients needing sustained blood pressure control throughout the 24-hour period.

Uses

  • Management of essential hypertension.
  • Treatment of hypertension unresponsive to monotherapy.
  • Reduction of cardiovascular risk in hypertensive patients.
  • Adjunctive therapy for fluid retention in hypertension.

Directions For Use

Take orally once daily, preferably at the same time each day, with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole.

Benefits

  • Effective and sustained blood pressure reduction.
  • Dual mechanism for comprehensive hypertension control.
  • Reduces fluid retention and edema.
  • Once-daily dosing for patient convenience.

Safety Measures

  • Alcohol - Avoid or limit alcohol consumption as it may enhance the blood pressure-lowering effect and increase the risk of dizziness.
  • Pregnancy - Contraindicated, especially in the second and third trimesters, due to significant risk of fetal harm and death.
  • Breastfeeding - Not recommended. Both components may pass into breast milk and could harm the infant.
  • Liver - Use with caution in patients with liver impairment; diuretics can precipitate hepatic coma.
  • Kidney - Use with caution in patients with kidney impairment; dose adjustment and monitoring of renal function are essential.
  • Lung - Generally safe for use in patients with lung conditions; not associated with ACE inhibitor-induced cough.
